Welcome to the official website of the first biography about the Irish folk group, the Clancy Brothers, a group which will soon be celebrating fifty years in the music business.
Brothers Paddy, Tom and Bobby Clancy are no longer with us, and their longtime music partner Tommy Makem passed away in August 2007. The last of the Clancy Brothers, Liam Clancy, died on December 4th, 2009, bringing an end to an era in Irish music. However, their nephew Robbie O'Connell and their sons and daughters continue the tradition in the renowned The High Kings, the Makem and Spain Brothers, and the Clancy Legacy.
The Clancy Brothers with Tommy Makem & Robbie O’Connell: The Men Behind the Sweaters covers the history of these fathers of Irish music, from the time eldest brother Paddy was born in Ireland in 1922, to Liam Clancy, Robbie O’Connell, and Tommy Makem’s most recent endeavors into the new millennium. For a look at the group’s early years, check out Liam’s 2002 autobiography, The Mountain of the Women: Memoirs of an Irish Troubadour, available at www.amazon.com.
